Stillwater Textile Conservation Studio is housed in a detached, dedicated facility in Bradford, New Hampshire. The Studio comprises an office and library, a large treatment lab, and a separate room for wet cleaning and dyeing.
The Studio provides a secure and controlled environment with an externally-monitored security system and year-round climate control. All light sources are filtered to remove ultraviolet light, and textiles awaiting treatment are kept in museum-quality storage. There is an active Integrated Pest Management program in place, although no infestations have ever occurred at the Studio.
The Studio has the tools and equipment to perform all textile conservation treatments. A 5′ x 10′ wash tank is used for most wet cleaning treatments, and larger tanks can be custom-built for textiles that require them. The water is softened and filtered for particulates, and all water used for wet treatments is deionized. Other equipment includes a polarizing light microscope, a suction disk and photography equipment.
